Performance in the Woods - Made by a Hunter for Hunters
Years ago, I bought a leather butt stock shell holder (it didn’t deserve to be called a Cartridge Cuff) from a well-known leather shop for my Winchester 94 30-30. This rifle was passed down to me from my dad, becoming my go-to rifle for hunting wild hogs and deer in east, Texas. If you have ever hunted hogs or tracked deer, you’ll know spare rounds can come in handy. Also, hogs often travel in large groups and the boars can be tough to kill.
Well, wouldn’t you know it, one frosty morning while slinking along the Sabine River I stumbled into a big group of hogs. The brush was thick, I heard grunting all around and once the pigs realized I was there they went nuts! Hogs ran all around me, I took aim and started picking targets: BOOM! (lever) BOOM! (lever) BOOM! … only a few seconds had passed and I needed to top off my magazine tube. Luckily, I was able to grab some shells from the shell holder even though it had slid up the buttstock (fixed in my design with the rear strap), top off my tube and keep dropping hogs!

When the smoke cleared, 4 hogs were down… yes, I missed a few, I admit it. I was alone with over a dozen hogs rodeoing around me. I was trying not to get mauled as much as I was trying to bring home the bacon!
When I started my journey into leatherwork much later, I remembered how annoying it was that the shell holder had slid on the stock and how I didn’t trust the thin leather loops to not lose my ammo. Those were things I would fix in my Cartridge Cuffs.

- By adding the rear strap, the cuff will never slide around on your butt stock, and you don’t feel it on your shoulder.
- I use thick 5/6oz leather for the cartridge loops sized tight for years of reliability and security. Your ammo WILL be there when you need it.
10,000+ Cartridge Cuffs Made
They say it takes 10,000 repetitions of something to become an expert… I suppose that makes me a Cartridge Cuff expert! Since starting leatherwork in 2010 I have hand crafted over 10,000 Cartridge Cuffs. Over the years I have developed a cut that fits any standard adult sized straight comb butt stock extremely well. Despite appearing different to the eye, butt stocks all have very similar dimensions, allowing Mason Leather Cartridge Cuffs to fit everything from a Marlin 336 or 1895 to a Winchester 94, Remington 700… and everything else! Checkout the photo gallery to see them on all kinds of rifles!
